As an inclusive school, we provide Quality First Teaching for all children in the class, including those with special education needs or disabilities.
Additional Learning Programmes are sometimes provided for children with additional needs. These can be delivered in class by the teacher or learning support assistant, or the children might have extra support outside the classroom from specialist teachers of support staff.
Programmes include but are not limited to:
Reading Recovery - 1 to 1 daily teaching of reading
Literacy Support - 1 to 1 or small group teaching of reading
Speech link - provides strategies to improve speech sounds
Language Link - provides strategies to improve the use of language
Talking Tables - building children vocabulary and language skills
Word Aware - building children's vocabulary and understanding
Better Reading - supporting reading skills
Max Maths - teaching basic number skills
1st Class @no - teaching basic number skills
Fundamentals - Sports Commission to support the development of gross motor skills
Amherst has external support from specialist teaching partners including:
Dyslexia Day Centre - specialist teachers who provided targetted reading and spelling intervention
Speech and Language - specialist speech and language therapists
Occupational Therapy - specialist therapist to support children's gross and fine motor skill development
Physio Therapy - specialist to provide 1 to 1 support for special physical needs
Les Voies Outreach - social, emotional and behaviour support
In addition to this, we have our community support partner including:
