At Amherst Primary School, we aim to offer all pupils an education that nurtures and develops the values, knowledge, and skills they need to flourish and make a positive difference in our community and the wider world. This is underpinned by our mission statement of ‘Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day’. We actively foster the school values of kindness, respect, confidence, resilience, honesty and open-mindedness. Our school is a place of learning where everyone’s UNCRC rights are valued and positively supported. Together, we aim to empower our pupils to grow into respectful, responsible global citizens who understand one another.
We follow the Bailiwick of Guernsey Curriculum which is aspirational and progressive, enabling pupils’ learning to be ‘outward facing’, leading to them becoming well-rounded individuals. We want our pupils to care about themselves, others, and the environment.
We have carefully selected our curriculum tools to ensure consistency and promote high
expectations for all children. Our programmes of studies include; Literacy Tree, White Rose Maths, Discovery RE, Language Angels, and Get Set for PE. We also use the Dimensions ‘Learning Means the World’ Curriculum as the main vehicle for the remaining subjects to provide an ambitious, well-crafted curriculum experience through a multi-disciplinary approach. This is achieved through the four key themes that underpin this curriculum; Communication; Culture; Conflict; and Conservation.
